Arlene Cohen contacted me earlier this year to get permission to submit a needlepoint picture that was reproduced from one of my cross stitch designs. This was for a competition held by the American Needlepoint Guild......AND......she won!! But, she not only won first place in its category but also the Small Masterpiece special award as well.
Instead of the traditional 14 or 18 count Aida, she chose to reproduce my design on 40 count silk gauze. If you look at the picture you can see a coin alongside which shows clearly the scale of the stitched piece. The awards are also specially made and you can see here that the centres are stitched motifs. I think one looks like crewel work and the other maybe cross stitch, but it must make the awards very special.
My original cross stitch design, Mauve Rhododendrons, can be seen on my Shop page under Flowers. It proves how versatile a design can be depending on the scale of the fabric as this chart is also quite suitable for wool stitched on canvas for a larger needlepoint cushion.
If you would like to see more about the background to Arlene's wonderful needlepoint on silk gauze then go to: www.chillyhollownp.blogspot.co.uk .....lovely name!
CONGRATULATIONS ARLENE
