Not everyone will like this style of cross stitch but it is how I started my designing for the needlework market many years ago. These are simple shapes that rely on blocks of colours working together to form the design. There are little or no backstitches involved that would help create an outline.
I used to design purely for needlepoint and this little motif would be ideal for this. Some of you may like to try it out by using one strand of wool worked on 10 count canvas and working it in Tent stitch (1/2 cross stitch) If using Crewel wools then use three strands in cross stitch to make sure you cover the canvas well.
With cross stitch on 14 count Aida the size will be 2.5 inches, with wool and canvas it will be 3.5 inches.
