Lesley Teare Cross Stitch Design

Oriental fan

30th Mar 2015

I've long been fascinated by the art, textiles and traditions of the Orient. I wrote a book called Oriental Cross Stitch in 2007 which has over 30 exquisite designs on this subject and I always find creating this style of design a very special process. This lovely design can be found in the latest issue of Gold Cross Stitch magazine, 119.

Stitchers with a keen eye for luxury and detail will enjoy working this Oriental - style fan. The design is worked in rich reds, regal purples and vivid blues, colours that are associated with this part of the world. As with many designs inspired by the East my fan is also embellished with sparkling gold highlights, worked in metallic thread.

The design is fairly easy to stitch as there only a few fractional stitches on the base that hold the fan  And traditional backstitches have been used so are easy to follow.

Many of the smaller motifs will also make lovely designs on their own for cards. The design is shown here as a hanging, but it will look great as a framed piture or made into a cushion.
